Idaho Dining
When in Idaho dining out is a real experience, whether you choose some traditional lamb and potatoes or prefer something of a more international flavor, it’s all in Idaho.
Idaho is famous for its potatoes and they certainly form a basis for many Idaho specials which you simply must try on your vacation. Simple gems such as traditional Idaho potato salad or loaded baked potatoes will tickle your taste-buds and leave you feeling full and satisfied for a real budget price. But surely there’s more to dining in Idaho than the humble spud.
Idaho Spud Day
So proud are the people of Idaho of their prize winning potatoes that they have a festival to honor it every September, Idaho Spud Day is held in Shelley and offers a fun time for people of all ages with non stop music, a free baked potato lunch (what else?) world championship potato picking and even a spud tug. Spuds are much more than a cheap side dish to the people of Idaho.
Trailing of the Sheep Festival
Man cannot live by spuds alone (although many have had to through the ages) so what better to accompany your spuds than a good old portion of lamb, another speciality from these parts. Not to be outdone by the potatoes, every October there’s a festival to celebrate the history of sheep ranching in Idaho, with music, story telling and of course, lots of lovely lamb to taste. You might even pick up a few traditional recipes too.
